Putting a TV in front of the fireplace?

We are about to buy a house that has a fireplace which we don't really plan on using. We love the house so we want it but see no use for the fireplace. We are thinking maybe we will put our TV in front of it.. would that be totally tacky? We have a 42" plasma that will cover it pretty well. Truthful opinions please!
