Could a conservative please explain to me why it is a bad thing that Syria is willing to talk with Israel?

Aren't we supposed to be helping Israel? Isn't opening a dialogue a better start to conflict resolution than threats and violence? It may not work, sure. It may end up that violence has to happen, sure. But why is it bad to talk first, to see if things can be cleared up this way?
