Sadie Hawkins Dance?

First, a bit of history. "Sadie Hawkins" was a character created by the cartoonist Al Capp, in his strip "Li'l Abner." She was, to put it mildly, somewhat plain. Her father, Judge Hawkins, decreed a race, in which Sadie could have a date with any man she could catch in a race. Now, my idea: see if you can find, in newspaper archives, a copy of the comic strip with Sadie Hawkins (should be some time in November, in years before about 1950). Use that as a basis for an invitation.
